NSW Sport and Recreation is a division of Communities NSW and we have over 70 years' experience in delivering School and Kids' Camps. Today we continue to use traditional camp values to provide participants with positive life-changing experiences. Our wealth of expertise means our camps are a safe, fun and challenging way for participants to try new things, meet new people and boost their self-confidence and social skills.
NSW Sport and Recreation is looking for enthusiastic, motivated people who enjoy the outdoors and working with children to deliver programs to the community at our 11 Centres.
We offer two avenues of employment with the delivery of our outdoor education and recreation camps. - Holiday staff - Program staff (Instructional)
1. Holiday staff
Our Holiday Camps are offered to school age children during the NSW school holidays and are known as either Kids' Camps or Family Camps.
There are three levels of holiday staff that provide pastoral care and support to participants while they are on these camps.
Assistant Camp Counsellor The Assistant Camp Counsellor (ACC) assists Camp Counsellors to provide pastoral care and supervision of participants enrolled in our Holiday Camps. ACCs learn first-hand what's required for progression to the role of Camp Counsellor.
To become an ACC you must be 18 years of age, have completed a minimum of four years of secondary school and are no longer attending school. You will be required to attend a Holiday Staff training weekend before you will be able to apply for Holiday Camp work.
Camp Counsellor The Camp Counsellor (CC) supervises and engages participants throughout the camp program, fostering a positive, inclusive, safe and fun environment. They can also facilitate selected activities on the holiday camp. They ensure that ACCs have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities while performing their duties at the Centre.
To become a CC you must meet the requirements of the ACC role, successfully complete all CORE activities assessments, hold a current resuscitation award and first aid qualification and receive a recommendation for progression from ACC to CC. Holding a current Bronze Medallion or equivalent is desireable.
Senior Camp Counsellor The Senior Camp Counsellor (SCC) is responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator in the daily running of the camp and the management and training of all the ACCs and CCs at the Centre.
To become a SCC you must meet all the requirements of a CC, have attended a minimum of six holiday programs as a CC and received two recommendations from different senior staff at different Centres, and have experience in training, assessing and accrediting holiday staff. You would also need to display a developed understanding of Sport and Recreation policies and philosophy relating to Holiday Camps.
2. Program staff (Instructional)
Program staff are responsible for the development and delivery of outcomes-based programs utilising fun and inclusive activities at our Centres. They facilitate activities on Holiday Camp and community group programs, however, they largely deliver School Camps in outdoor education during school terms.
